Construction Alert
We have begun site prep work at the new Bikefill Bike Park this week! Contractors began installing stormwater runoff mitigation measures and are performing site improvements designed to stabilize soils and prepare the site for heavy machinery. In conjunction with the park project, Knife River will be improving McIlhattan Road, which includes moving material from the road corridor onto the Bikefill site. This material will be shaped into the trails and features prioritized in the Bikefill Park Master Plan, approved earlier this spring.
The road project is expected to commence this fall and wrap up by winter. During that time, McIlhattan Road traffic will be limited to construction vehicles along the City Solid Waste property. People wishing to access Snowfill Recreation Area from downtown Bozeman should do so via Manley Road. The construction of a new parking area and pathway for the park is expected to start once road improvements are completed, with a majority of construction to be completed in 2027.
We now have bird survey information available for the site. The bird survey provides baseline information from our community partners at Sacajawea Audubon who are committed to doing annual surveys going forward, as they do in other City parks. The surveys will contribute to our understanding of how birds are impacted by the bike park use, increased traffic, and additional trees and shrubs that will be planted there now and into the future. See the bird count below.
